FROM SURFACE TO POTASH MINE: CHILDREN CAN NOW EXPERIENCE THE JOURNEY AT NUTRIEN WONDERHUB THANKS TO PARTNERSHIP WITH TEAM POWER SOLUTIONS

TPS brings real-world mining expertise and industrial technology into Saskatchewan’s only children’s museum to support an immersive educational experience for visitors of all ages.

Nutrien Wonderhub (Wonderhub) is excited to announce the reopening of its Discovery Mine elevator experience, now fully restored and enhanced through the generous support of Team Power Solutions (TPS).

Located within the museum’s Discovery Mine exhibit, the immersive elevator experience simulates a journey one kilometer underground into a Saskatchewan potash mine. Featuring synchronized lighting, video, sound, voice guidance, and functioning mine cage doors that open and close, the experience helps visitors explore the province’s mining industry in an engaging and accessible way.

For several years, the elevator doors and core programming functionality had been out of service, leaving a significant gap in one of the museum’s signature experiences. As a non-profit charitable organization, Wonderhub faced financial barriers to restoring the complex system. That changed when TPS came on board. With extensive experience supporting underground potash mining operations, TPS immediately connected with the project, understanding firsthand the value of turning industry knowledge and skills into something young minds can explore and understand.

“We are incredibly grateful to Team Power Solutions for their generosity, expertise, and belief in the importance of hands-on learning experiences for children,” said Leah Brodie, CEO at Nutrien Wonderhub. “This project has transformed a long-missed part of the Discovery Mine exhibit into a more immersive and educational experience than ever before. Partnerships like this make an enormous impact for our organization and the families we serve.”

Rather than simply restoring the original system, TPS worked to fully enhance the experience. New features include traffic lights and voice guidance to improve visitor flow and accessibility, immersive audio storytelling about mining and its impact on Saskatchewan, and an intelligent fault-resilient system with remote-monitoring technology designed to keep the system reliable and easy to maintain long-term. “By bringing real industrial technology into a public setting, we’ve created a visually immersive experience that brings underground mining to life,” said Braydon Fetter, Automation Department Manager at Team Power Solutions.

The project also received support from TPS partner, Westburne. TPS says the project aligned closely with the company’s desire to help children better understand the industries that shape Saskatchewan and to create meaningful connections between families and the work happening underground every day. The Discovery Mine elevator experience is now open to visitors and included with Wonderhub Membership or admission.
