The potash industry is equipment with large-diameter open gearing, the largest being the dryers. In 2020, Standard Machine was asked to supply a new gear and pinion with a short lead time to meet an upcoming dryer reconditioning project. We sent our engineering team to the site and using our specialized measuring equipment we confirmed the dimensions and the project was ready to move forward.
Next, the project moved over to our production team who needed to order material and schedule the work throughout our 175,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. This gear measured approximately 18-feet in diameter which required our very largest machining centres to complete the gear and mating pinion.
Once machining and gear cutting was completed, our quality team checked all the critical dimensions to ensure that when this gear was installed it fit exactly as it should and will operate trouble free for many years to come.
To complete the project this summer, Standard Machine will be using our very experienced on-site technical services team to remove the old gearing and install the new gear & pinion. We will roll test the gear and set up the pinion using our latest site measuring equipment, then be there for the commissioning at the start-up of the dryer.
Start to finish, Standard Machine will manage your projects and will provide the highest quality products and services, all from our Saskatoon, Sask. facility location.
