The potash industry in Saskatchewan is crucial to the country’s economic standing, as it is the top producer globally. With industry leaders such as Nutrien, K+S Potash, Mosaic, and BHP at the forefront, its growth and success are undeniable. The Saskatchewan Government’s report has revealed that the industry’s contribution to provincial GDP is a significant 11%, offering ample employment opportunities for direct and indirect workers. The report also states that 14.2 million tonnes of K2O were produced, and sales amounted to $7.6 billion in 2021.

These minerals include essential elements such as nickel, cobalt, zinc, lithium, and rare earth elements (REE) like neodymium, cerium, praseodymium, and lanthanum. These minerals are essential for manufacturing a wide range of products, from cutting-edge technologies like rockets, electric cars, and drones to everyday essentials like smartphones.
Another significant discovery in Saskatchewan is helium, a valuable natural gas that is nonrenewable and primarily sourced from natural gas reservoirs. Helium has become an essential element sought by highly respected corporations like SpaceX, NASA, and Google. Also, according to the U.S. Department of the Interior – Bureau of Land Management, helium is crucial in creating vital diagnostic equipment like MRI machines used in the medical field. In 2021, Saskatchewan’s Government set a remarkable goal of providing 10% of the world’s helium supply by 2030 through their Helium Action Plan: From Exploration to Exports. production process makes it an appealing prospect for potential investors.
