Uralkali Wins Ecology Nomination in the Leader of Perm Region Contest

Jul 7, 2025 | potash news

Uralkali (the Company) became the winner of the Ecology category of the Leader of the Perm Region regional context held in Perm during the Urban Nature festival.

The Company’s victory recognises its systematic approach to environmental protection and its significant contribution to preserving the natural wealth of the Perm Region. The core of Uralkali’s submission was its Biodiversity Conservation Programme (BCP), in place since 2024 as part of the corporate ESG strategy.

The programme envisages monitoring, assessing, and protecting natural ecosystems within the Company’s operational areas. The scope of the BCP covers licence plots, nearby protected natural areas, and 11 small rivers. Field observations are conducted at 17 key locations — tracking birds in spring and studying flora, fauna, and landscapes in summer. The assessment uses 13 quantitative and 2 species-based biodiversity indicators. Scientists from the Natural Science Institute of Perm State National Research University contribute to the programme’s development and implementation. Among important components of the BCP are environmental lectures and birdwatching tours for schoolchildren and local residents, which help foster ecological awareness.

Dmitry Kostenko, Uralkali Deputy CEO — HSE Director:

Uralkali takes a responsible approach to biodiversity conservation within its operational areas, and acts in the interests of future generations. For us, this award is not just recognition of our efforts but also confirmation that we are on the right path in environmental protection. We are proud that our systemic approach to preserving natural resources has been highly commended at the regional level.
